Our photo this week is a disc pelletizer in action.

Also known as a pan granulator or pan pelletizer, this agglomeration equipment transforms raw materials into round pellets. Here’s how it works: material is fed onto a rotating pan, where it tumbles against itself in the presence of moisture, creating a snowball effect. The overall process ultimately produces round pellets.

Disc pelletizers are ideal in situations where pellet quality is of the utmost importance. Pelletizers offer a variety of variables that can be adjusted to fine-tune the product to the exact desired characteristics. Additionally, disc pelletizer process configurations typically result in far less recycle than alternative set-ups, such as an agglomeration drum configuration.

Disc pelletizers can agglomerate a wide variety of materials, including fertilizer, clay, limestone, and fly ash. FEECO has been pelletizing and de-dusting materials for over 60 years, creating premium pelletized products from raw fines, or waste materials.
