This week is the annual Process Equipment Manufacturer’s Association meeting in St. Petersburg, Florida and we will once again be in attendance. The meeting offers everyone attending a great chance to network as well as learn from what others around the world are doing.

Stephen Dubner – Author of Freakonmomics
On Thursday, Stephen Dubner, co-author of Freakonomics and Superfreakonomics will give a presentation about how modern business practices are changing and how businesses need to embrace a new way of thinking in order to stay ahead of the competition and succeed. Dubner will also partake in a question and answer session afterwards as well as take some time to sign copies of Freakonomics for the attendees.

The Brazilian Capital Goods Market
On Friday, Mark Langevin, Ph.D., director, BrazilWorks will give a presentation on the capital goods industry in Brazil as well as give an analysis of the process equipment market structure. In the past, FEECO has provided equipment (disc pelletizers, feeders, bins etc.) for a nickel mining project in Brazil, so we are familiar with the needs of mining and natural resource companies as well as the opportunities for process equipment manufacturers in the region.

Some Other Highlights of the Meeting

In addition to the talks by Dubner and Langevin, Lt. Gen. David D.Halverson, deputy commanding general and chief of staff for the U.S.Army Training and Doctrine Command (TRADOC) will give a presentation on how to be a leader in stressful and complex environments.

There are also some great roundtable discussions scheduled for Saturday morning. The roundtable topics will touch on electronic archiving and moving to the cloud, benchmarking marketing dollars and measuring ROI and health insurance cost management and how companies are preparing for the implementation of ObamaCare.

Over seventy-five percent of PEMA member companies will have executives in attendance so there is sure to be great conversation and exchanging of ideas to improve our industry as a whole.
