This week’s photo comes from the FEECO Fabrication Center, and shows a bearing being mounted onto an adapter with the help of a hydraulic nut.

Bearings are part of the support structure for a rotary drum, located on trunnion bases, with the pinion shaft sitting inside the bearings.

Traditionally, these bearings were installed by hand, with someone hammering them into place. The development of the hydraulic nut technology, however, has greatly improved the efficiency and accuracy of this mounting process.
