This week’s photo shows pelletized, or granulated, manure.

FEECO offers numerous process design and equipment options to turn raw wastes, such as cow or chicken manure, into a high quality, organic fertilizer granule. This process, known as organics granulation, utilizes various types of equipment, including pin mixers, paddle mixers, and rotary dryers, in order to transform the waste into a marketable product. Fertilizer granules provide many benefits to the agricultural industry, as shown below:

    • Compared to raw manure, granules are more easily stored. This allows farmers to use the granules as needed, unlike raw manure, which must be used immediately.
    • Manure granules cost significantly less to transport due to decreased moisture content and are also more easily transported and handled.
    • The granules contain consistent nutrients, unlike unprocessed manure, where nutrients vary.
    • Granules are ideal for spreading on crops and open the opportunity for precision agriculture applications.
