This week’s photo comes straight from FEECO’s lab, where a technician is examining pellets on a disc pelletizer (pan granulator).
While processing a material, it is often necessary to stop and examine pellets, checking for uniform binder distribution, pellet size, and other factors, and then making any necessary adjustments to the process. Because the disc pelletizer is an open system, technicians have easy access to the material while it’s in action, and can easily monitor pellets on the disc.
If processing adjustments are necessary, lab technicians can manipulate several factors on the disc pelletizer, including disc angle, speed, feed control, and spray system location, all while the unit is still in production. For this reason, it takes a skilled operator to effectively run the disc pelletizer and produce desired pellet characteristics.
Overall, disc pelletizers offer easy operational control and flexibility, making them the agglomeration equipment of choice for producing smooth, round pellets. The ability to monitor the disc and make adjustments during production is beneficial when producing a premium pellet product. For more information on disc pelletizers, contact us today!
