Photo of the Week: Graphite Blocks

This week’s photo highlights a graphite block.

Graphite blocks are placed above the trunnion wheel, on the opposite side of the drive base, and leave a coating of graphite on the trunnion wheel as the drum rotates. The coating helps reduce wear on the tire as it comes into contact with the wheel.

Graphite blocks should be checked monthly for glazing. The blocks may need to be roughed up periodically, to help the graphite transfer. The blocks should also be regularly inspected for wear; the timing of wear will vary depending on the duty cycles and running atmosphere conditions of the drum itself, and should be replaced as needed.

FEECO considers graphite blocks a standard spare part for rotary drums, and we recommend they be kept in stock at your operation. Should you need replacement graphite blocks, our customer service and parts team would be happy to quote your needs by filling out the contact us form on FEECO.com.
