Haldor Topsoe has been chosen for the engineering design, licensing, proprietary hardware, catalysts and additional services of a new billion dollar fertilizer plant in Tanzania. As the first fertilizer plant in Tanzania, it is expected to deliver enormous benefits to the country’s agriculture industry and economic development.

Chicago’s Waste water and Sewage to be Cleaned and Turned Into Biosolids

Illinois Governor Bruce Rauner has just signed a bill allowing Chicago waste water treatment facilities to begin transforming sewage sludge into biosolids for use as fertilizer. Biosolids are currently being given away for free, but the city of Chicago plans to partner with a company early next year and begin selling the product into market.

USA EPA Partners with Hog and Dairy Producers in Technology Competition

The Nutrient Recycling Challenge seeks to find ways to effectively extract nutrients from the over 907 million tonnes of livestock manure produced annually. Extraction of nitrogen and phosphorous from this manure would allow for the recycling of this “waste” into a usable fertilizer product. Winners of the challenge will split around $20,000 in prize money.

Need for Increasing Crop Yields Means Exponential Growth of Manganese Carbonate Market

Industry Today reports that the rising demand for higher crop yields could lead to significant growth in the manganese carbonate market. Manganese carbonate occurs naturally as a mineral rhodochrosite (pictured above). Through the process of calcination, manganese carbonate can be transformed into manganese oxide and used in commercial fertilizers.
