This week’s photo is a granulation drum inside the FEECO manufacturing facility.

Granulation drums, or granulators, are commonly used to process fertilizer. When the drum rotates, fertilizer granules tumble along the interior of the drum, creating an agglomerated, uniform shape. FEECO custom designs granulation drums to solve countless material needs, thus specific drum characteristics vary from customer to customer. Flights or a liquid binder, for example, may be added to the process, depending on the desired end product.

Granulation drums also range in size, accommodating a variety of process requirements and throughputs. These drums are often followed by a rotary dryer in order to reduce moisture in the final end product.
