Fly ash, a unique by-product of coal burning power plants, can be a cumbersome material to process because of its varying composition and tendency to build-up.

Depending on the type of coal and the efficiency of the coal burner, fly ash composition will vary from power plant to power plant. Thus, because no two samples are necessarily alike, testing is always recommended to create the best processing method unique to your sample.

Fly ash also has a tendency to build up on equipment, in addition to sticking and hardening. Again, testing should be done prior to full scale-production, and it should be done by experienced technicians who understand the unique challenges associated with processing fly ash.

While fly ash can be cumbersome to process by an untrained hand, it offers many benefits in an agglomerated form. For more in-depth information on processing this material, read our blog Fly Ash Agglomeration.
