This week’s photo is of the FEECO batch kiln in operation.

The FEECO Innovation Center has a number of “batch” size pieces of equipment used to test materials and processes on a test scale under various conditions. This includes everything from agglomeration and mixing, to thermal processing. Whether a customer is starting from scratch with a raw product and an idea, or they have a complete process that needs optimizing, FEECO’s Innovation Center can help.

Customers are able to send a small amount of their material to the FEECO Innovation Center for testing, and once a process has been developed or refined, FEECO can help scale up the process in order to meet production specifications.

The batch kiln as seen in the photo can heat solids up to 3000ºF (or 1650ºC) and can simulate parallel or counter-current flow. This is a valuable piece to the FEECO Innovation Center, as it allows for customers to test smaller amounts of their material without the need for a commercial size rotary kiln.
