This week’s photo shows a bulk density test in action. Here, our process expert is weighing raw material prior to processing in the Innovation Center.

The ability to test bulk density ensures the product will meet the needs of its desired application. Bulk density is an important criteria in sizing and designing equipment according to the material and processing needs. Certain products may also require a specific bulk density for packaging or shipping purposes, consumer use, or maintaining pellet integrity during use.

Bulk density is just one of several tests our process experts conduct in the Innovation Center. The chart below highlights the most common tests performed prior to processing a material, during processing, and after agglomerates are produced.

Prior to Processing During Processing After Processing
Attrition X
Crush Strength X
Green/Wet Strength X
Compression X
Bulk Density X X
Physical Characteristics X X X
Solubility X
Sieve Analysis X X X
Flowability X X X
Moisture Content X X X

Analyzing a material’s characteristics is important to process and product development, and is key to creating agglomerates that meet our customer’s direct needs. To learn more about the material tests conducted at FEECO, contact us today!
