Rotary dryers and rotary kilns share similar thermal processing functions, but each is intended for very different industrial applications.
Rotary dryers operate at inlet temperatures between 600 and 1400ºF, and are predominately used to draw moisture out of a material. Rotary kilns, on the other hand, are utilized to cause a phase change or a chemical reaction within a material. To achieve this, kilns run at much higher temperatures, typically between 1000 and 3000ºF.
While rotary kilns can sometimes aid in the drying process, this is not their main objective. Therefore, those looking for a drying solution will be best suited with a rotary dryer.
