This week’s photo shows a warped leaf seal. Extreme heat during a kiln’s operation caused the seal to curl away from the drum, and cool into this deformed shape. It was later replaced by a FEECO Customer Service Engineer.

Leaf seals minimize air leakage into the kiln, which ultimately reduces fuel consumption and can result in a capacity increase. Like any other part of a high performing machine, however, seals do need regular monitoring to ensure they are working at the utmost efficiency. FEECO recommends an annual kiln inspection to prevent costly downtime to your industrial process, and part of that inspection should include an examination of the leaf seals.

All seals are not only a part of initial equipment install, but can be inspected, repaired, or replaced by FEECO’s Customer Service Engineers. For more information on seals, contact us today!
