Vibration can be caused by many different components on a rotary drum. A high percentage of the time, it comes from the drive, and most commonly, the gear engagement. But vibrations can also generate from the tires of the drum if they have developed a washboard type pattern on their riding surface. In each case, the underlying cause is misalignment of the drum’s wheels and gear set.
Maintaining proper rotary drum alignment is essential; it can help prevent premature tire and trunnion wheel wear, ultimately extending the life of the drum and helping to maintain ideal operating conditions.
While rotary drum misalignment can be caused by a number of things, it also occurs naturally over time, through normal wear and tear. For this reason, annual rotary drum inspections are critical to help detect early signs of misalignment. FEECO Customer Service Engineers are highly trained in recognizing misalignment and conducting re-alignment on rotary drums, be it FEECO equipment or otherwise.
If your drum is experiencing premature wear, or you suspect it’s out of alignment, contact a FEECO Customer Service Engineer today!
