Last week, FEECO hosted a group of students from the University of Wisconsin – Green Bay’s Pollution Control Class. Students were brought in for a tour of the FEECO facility, as well as a Q&A session with FEECO employees, some of whom are graduates of the program.

The class, taught by Dr. John Katers, is part of the Technology and Management emphasis in the Environmental Science major at the University, and has been offered for decades. As part of the class, students tour facilities in the region to see real-world applications of the principles they learn in class. “These facility tours allow the students to see things first hand, which helps them to better understand the size and scale of the equipment and technologies,” says Katers. “It also allows them to better understand the types of companies in their community, as well as the potential for jobs.” According to Katers, students who take these tours often end up working for one of the companies.

FEECO has had a close working relationship with the University for many years, having worked together and shared resources on a variety of projects. Mandy Peterson, part of FEECO’s Research & Development Team, and UWGB graduate says, “The Pollution Control class is a great match for what we do here at FEECO, particularly in the waste transformation industry. Students get really excited when they see what we’re doing here.”

The tour consisted of about 22 students from the program.
