Knocking systems are physical enhancements placed on the exterior of a rotary dryer to counteract sticking inside of the drum. They are most commonly fitted on the inlet end of the dryer where material entering in is the most wet and tacky.

Build-up can occasionally occur during the industrial drying process, and is caused by the material sticking to itself or sticking to the rotary drum’s interior shell. Knocking systems are an effective solution to this issue, as they “knock” build-up off of the shell while the drum rotates.

FEECO manufactures four different knocking systems: ball and tube knockers, pneumatic hammers, hammer knockers, and ramps. Each can be designed into a new rotary dryer purchase, or retro-fitted into an existing dryer.
