Our photo this week shows the interior of a rotary drum with a rubber liner installed. Flexible rubber liners are often used in rotary drums to help prevent buildup caused by material sticking to itself and the sides of the drum.

Rubber liners are used extensively throughout the fertilizer industry in particular. They work by flexing downward as they reach the top of the rotation of the drum, sloughing off any material that may have caked on.

Buildup is a common issue faced by those who utilize rotary drums, but there are many options to control buildup in a rotary drum, among them, liners, ball and tube knockers, hammers, and pneumatic hammers.
