Photo of the Week: Rotary Kiln Inspection

In this week’s photo, a FEECO Customer Service Engineer is checking for cracks in the refractory of a rotary kiln.

Cracks periodically arise within the kiln’s refractory because certain areas are exposed to more direct heat. The area closest to the combustion chamber is the hottest, and that is where the refractory will become extremely dry. As a result, cracks can form, and the refractory can fall off, creating extensive damage to the kiln.

Like any other industrial piece of equipment, kilns require regular inspection. Any irregularities should be caught immediately before minor issues have a chance to turn serious; prevention is key.

FEECO’s Customer Service Engineers are highly skilled in rotary kiln inspections and maintenance. For more information, contact us today!
