This week’s photo shows the leveling of trunnion bases.

Leveling a rotary drum’s trunnion bases is part of a new drum installation, and is done prior to laser aligning the bases. The goal is to get the bases to within 1/16” with respect to spread, slope, and square prior to laser alignment. Trunnion bases are then aligned to within ± 0.010” using the laser tracker, and after alignment, grout is poured on the bases.

The torpedo digital level in today’s featured image shows the slope as 2.80º; the GA drawing for this specific base had bases drawn at 2.40º, meaning the slope of the base was too steep and had to be adjusted.

Level and aligned bases are important to the health and longevity of the drum. To learn more about FEECO’s parts and service support, including our offerings for new equipment installations, contact us today!
