This week’s photo shows a crushed Potash sample from the FEECO Innovation Center.

Potash, and many other salts, are hygroscopic, that is, they easily absorb and retain water molecules. As a result of such water absorption, the material physically changes. In the featured photo, you’ll notice the potash fines have hardened and clumped.

From hygroscopic materials like Potash, to hydrophobic, abrasive, and corrosive ones, having a strong knowledge-base of material characteristics is essential to all Innovation Center functions; it affects the way in which we store material samples, operate equipment, develop processes, and more.

FEECO relies on the experienced hands of our Process Experts, in addition to our vast material database when preparing for each and every test we conduct. All of the process data collected helps us make informed decisions on each test done at FEECO, recording pertinent information on material characteristics, binders, RPMs, etc. Through this combination of knowledgeable Process Experts, and a developed database, we are able to create the most ideal testing experiences for our customers.
