This week’s photo highlights a rotary kiln dam in 3D.

Oftentimes, it is necessary to increase retention time and/or bed depth in a kiln. This is achieved through the use of a dam. A rotary kiln dam works by forcing material to build up behind the dam, resulting in retention time and bed depth to increase.

End dams are more frequently used because they effectively hold the material where the air is warmest (at the discharge end in a counter current kiln). Internal dams are also an option if an end dam is not sufficient.

FEECO’s engineers and designers are highly skilled in developing a kiln to align with your material and processing needs. To learn more about our custom rotary kilns, contact a FEECO expert today!
