This week’s photo shows a rotary cooler, with flights affixed to the drum’s interior. The photo was taken in 1961, just ten years after FEECO was founded.

Flights play a large role in industrial cooling, as they increase the efficiency of transfer between the material and cool, ambient air. They work by scooping the material up from the bed, and showering the material through the stream of air, all while the drum is in rotation. This process creates a “curtain,” and reduces the material’s temperature to meet end product requirements.

FEECO customizes all cooler flights- from their physical design, to the pattern in which they are laid out inside the drum- and continues that customization process today. Because no material and processing goal is necessarily alike, FEECO engineers coolers for your precise needs.
