Recently, FEECO welcomed 14 graduate students from the Universidad del Desarrollo in Santiago, Chile. The students, studying engineering and sustainability, received a tour of the FEECO facility, as well as an open-style Q&A with staff members.
The students were accompanied by Dr. John Katers, Professor and Chair of Natural and Applied Sciences at the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay, along with a few of his faculty colleagues from Chile. The purpose of their trip to FEECO was to learn about waste transformation in the region and apply it to their master program studies and places of employment.
FEECO has a long history in waste transformation. Since its founding in 1951, FEECO has developed countless solutions to convert wastes into usable and profitable products. From transforming clay into cat litter, and saw-dust into fuel pellets, FEECO has helped customers divert millions of tons of waste from landfills. The above photo from Alex Godoy Faundez, faculty member at the university in Chile, shows a tour stop at FEECO’s state of the art testing facility where these initial waste to product tests occur.
In conjunction with waste transformation, the students were particularly interested in technology and mining, and were well-versed in FEECO’s mission. “You could just feel their passion for the environment and what we do” says Lee Hoffmann, FEECO Vice President and General Manager. “They were all brimming with questions that were a lot of fun to address.”
FEECO and UWGB have a strong work relationship, uniting on various projects over the years. As always, FEECO is proud to share their expertise with these scholars and looks forward to hosting again.
