Photo of the Week: Rotary Dryer Lifter Designs

This week’s photo features two lifter designs.

Lifters, also known as fins or flights, are commonly added to the interior of a rotary dryer to assist in the industrial drying process. Their overall objective is to promote efficient heat transfer between the material and the process air.

As the name suggests, lifters lift the material up and drop it through the process air while the rotary dryer rotates. This is referred to as creating a ‘curtain’ of material. Ideally, the curtain will span the entire breadth of the drum’s interior, evenly falling from one side to the other.

FEECO offers a variety of lifters to meet your process and product needs. As seen in today’s photo, shape, layout, and material of construction of lifters vary, because no industrial drying system at FEECO is alike. Our rotary drum dryers are always custom designed and fabricated around a material’s unique characteristics.
