Titanium and titanium dioxide play critical roles as lightweight structural materials, essential white pigments, and emerging feedstocks for additive manufacturing. Mixing & Agglomeration

Agglomeration, or the conversion of powders into granules, may be employed in titanium processing operations to enhance product characteristics or improve downstream furnace performance. FEECO pin mixers and disc pelletizers can produce agglomerated granules from titanium-bearing fines or recycled material streams such as:

  • Titanium dioxide (TiO2) powder and captured fines
  • Ilmenite (for upgrading to synthetic rutile via thermal treatment)
  • Hydrated TiO2

Rotary Dryers & Coolers

As with agglomeration, proper drying and cooling are crucial to many types of processes working with titanium and related materials. From drying titanium chips to cooling calcined titanium dioxide products, rotary dryers and coolers serve as efficient, high-volume solutions. Fluid bed dryers are also available when more gentle drying is required. 

Rotary Kilns

Rotary kilns are widely used for carrying out the high-temperature treatment required of many titanium processing lines. Processes such as ilmenite upgrading and calcination of titanium intermediates rely on the precise temperature control and uniform heat transfer capabilities of rotary kilns to meet advanced thermal processing objectives. FEECO’s custom kilns are available in both direct and indirect configurations. 

Bulk Material Handling

Our custom bucket elevators, belt conveyors, steep incline, and shuttle conveyors offer reliable material handling in challenging settings. 

Belt trippers and plows can be incorporated for applications requiring multiple discharge points. Belt feeders are also available for controlled material metering onto conveyors. 

PLANT AND PILOT SCALE PROCESS TESTING AND DESIGN

Testing is often a critical component in the success of process and equipment design. The FEECO Innovation Center is a unique testing facility where we can test your material at both batch and pilot scale in order to work out process variables and design commercial-scale units, as well as scale up the process.

Feasibility/Proof of Concept: An initial, non-witnessed batch testing phase in which the possibility of creating a product is explored.

Proof of Product: A more in-depth batch testing phase in which more time is spent determining whether a product can be made to desired specifications.

Proof of Process: A continuous testing phase that aims to establish the equipment setup and parameters required for continuous production of your specific material.

Process/Product Optimization: An in-depth study to optimize your specific material’s characteristics and/or production parameters in an industrial setting.
