The following is a summary of the article “The Role of the Engineering Company in the Implementation of a Urea-Based NPK Granulation Project in Malaysia,” by Lee D. Hoffman, and Glen H. Wesenberg.

In this unique project for FPM of Malaysia, the owner served as the project manager for the project. FEECO took a basic process design developed by the International Fertilizer Development Center through pilot-plant testing, and translated it into a functional mechanical design. FPM of Malaysia then fabricated most of the major equipment, and constructed a urea-based NPK granulation plant.

The major roles played by FPM and IFDC included determining market potential and needs, establishing appropriate formulations to meet market needs, developing the basic process design and operating parameters suitable for use in a commercial-scale granulation plant, establishing overall project feasibility, and arranging for financing.

As a combined engineering and equipment manufacturing firm, FEECO is well-equipped to serve customers with equipment design, sizing, and selection, general plant and equipment layout, equipment fabrication, selection of materials for construction, start-up assistance, and training in operation and maintenance of equipment.

With these strengths, FEECO assisted FPM in meeting key objectives, resulting in the FPM factory being constructed in an economic way, and boosting the local economy with local fabrication and construction services. Read full article
