Photo of the Week: Rotary Kiln Refractory

This week’s photo from the FEECO Fabrication Center shows refractory being poured into place for a rotary kiln door.

Refractory serves the purpose of insulating and protecting the shell of the drum from the high temperatures within. The type of refractory shown here is poured into place as a mixture and then allowed to harden and dry, similar to cement. As can be seen in the photo, anchors add extra support for holding the refractory in place.

Because rotary kilns run at such high temperatures, refractory is essential in protecting the shell and helping to keep the kiln running at maximum efficiency.

FEECO’s rotary kilns are custom built to meet process specifications. For more information on our rotary kilns, contact us today!
