Our photo this week is a rotary dryer.

Rotary dryers are used in a variety of industries to dry materials prior to transportation, baggage and storage. They operate at temperatures between 800° – 1400°F and use internal flights to maximize heat transfer between the material and process gas, ultimately drawing moisture out of the material.

FEECO’s rotary dryers can process a wide range of materials- potash, DAP, copper, iron, limestone, gypsum, sludges and more. Because of the broad range of applications, each dryer is customized to suit the needs of the specific process and material. This particular dryer features a rotary trommel screen (pictured at the very front of the dryer), which is used to break up any large lumps that may have formed during processing. FEECO also considers the following items during each custom design:

  • Lifting flights: including flight design and flight pattern
  • Inlet temperatures
  • Residence times
  • Counter-current or co-current air flow
  • Material of construction
  • And more…
