This week’s photo highlights a moisture analyzer from the FEECO Innovation Center.

FEECO’s process experts use the moisture analyzer prior to, during, and after processing materials, to record the amount of moisture in each sample. With most materials, reaching a specific moisture range, or even a precise percentage, is required in an end product. This ensures the agglomerates perform as desired, and do not result in clumping or premature breakdown.

The moisture analyzer functions to determine the amount of moisture present in the material sample. It uses infrared heating elements and a fan to circulate and exchange air to give uniform drying of the material. The time and temperature can be set to ensure complete drying, which is helpful if precautions need to be made due to heat sensitive materials. Finally, several moisture tests are completed on each material to ensure reproducibility. Our process experts then analyze how much moisture it took to create a pellet, and as a result, we are able to use this information to scale-up the size and type of drying system, spraying systems and pumps needed during the agglomeration process.
