In response to Republican Senators not gaining enough support to move forward with the proposed mining bill in Wisconsin, last week, Gogebic Taconite announced that they were pulling their proposed iron ore mining project out of Wisconsin.

The project, which would streamline the permitting process for entities looking to invest in mining in Wisconsin, would have brought thousands of jobs to the state.

In response to Gogebic Taconite’s decision to pull out of Wisconsin, President Dan Madigan discussed his thoughts on the situation. “Entities looking to invest in Wisconsin need the security of a certain, predictable timelime…so that investors can look at the state and see that it’s a place that they want to do business and that mining can be healthy and growing in the state.” Madigan also discussed that when making a decision to move forward, there’s an available window of time, where that opportunity remains active. If that opportunity is not seized, it may not come around again for decades. “At the end of the day, this is about jobs: jobs around the state, not just in manufacturing, but in trucking, in restaurants, everywhere.”

Madigan noted that FEECO itself is an environmentally conscious company. “We pride ourselves not only on our efforts in sustainable business practices, but also on our efforts in developing technologies that benefit the environment through the transformation of wastes. We care about the environment just as much as anyone.”

FEECO, who builds rotary ore drums for the agglomeration of ore, is a recent recipient of the “Green Professional” title, from the Wisconsin Sustainable Business Council’s Green Masters Program.
