This year, the Advanced Sustainable Iron and Steel Making Center (ASISC) held its fourth annual meeting, and FEECO International attended.

The ASISC is a Michigan Tech based program, geared towards “fostering a research base that promotes synergy between academic and industrial interests, leading to a new generation of sustainable, economical iron and steel making technologies.” This year’s meeting covered “issues related to advanced sustainable iron and steel making, including recent developments in current and improved technologies (ASISC).”

FEECO’s agglomeration sales engineer and Institute for Briquetting and Agglomeration President, Chris Kozicki, presented at this year’s conference. Though FEECO does not actually produce Iron and Steel related materials or their ores, we have been involved in numerous projects related to the Iron and Steel Industries. Such projects include providing iron ore balling drums, pelletizers, portable briquetting plants, agglomeration drums for copper, silver, and gold, and granulation drums for converting mined minerals into fertilizer, among others.

While FEECO may not be directly involved in these industries, the conference was a valuable experience, and offered a lot of helpful information. This conference allowed FEECO to gain a better understanding of the challenges facing the mining industry regarding carbon capture.
