Today, people will celebrate Earth Day by planting trees, cleaning up litter and putting in some extra effort to make the world a better place to live.

FEECO has a proud history of being environmentally friendly, so celebrating Earth Day comes naturally to us. We have a page on our website that has a running counter of tons of waste that we’ve helped divert from landfills. That is great accomplishment in and of itself, but it’s really only half of the story.  It’s more than just keeping the air, soil and water clean; it’s about being able to capture waste and turn it into something useful.

Many of the materials that our customers bring to us end up as a fertilizer that aids in replenishing the nutrients in soil.  This is pivotal in fighting hunger and poverty in developing countries, as well as promoting self-reliance. Not only are we keeping wastes out of the landfills, but we are putting life-sustaining minerals and nutrients back into the earth.

We are proud of our past, but what about the future? How many tons of waste will our waste counter grow to? What could that number be if more places utilized our lab to run their materials through to see if something of value could be made?

These are the questions that should motivate all of us going forward as we seek to find solutions to the most challenging environmental problems.  If you think that you have a material that can be turned into something of value, please contact us, we would love to help.

So on this Earth Day, let’s remember that it’s not just about keeping the earth clean, it’s about making it sustainable long into the future.
