This past week, a company spent the week running tests in FEECO’s lab.
These tests were looking at the potential of improving on an old, but valuable technology: the use of MAP (Mono Ammonium Phosphate) as a fertilizer. Mono Ammonium Phosphate has been an industry standard in the fertilizer industry for many years, as a high analysis source of phosphorus for crops. While it is highly effective, the downside to this technology is that when applied to the soil, much of the phosphate becomes unavailable for plant up-take due to the chemical tie up from the soil’s chemistry. This means that much of the MAP goes to waste in this chemical tie up.
Last week, this company spent many hours in the FEECO lab, coating existing MAP granules with their materials. These materials will be able to protect the MAP from the chemical tie up, therefore unlocking the full potential of the MAP. The results of the tests were quite successful, and the product is now off to a greenhouse for plant studies. The success of this technology could mean a revolution in improving the efficiency of the current fertilizer technologies.
FEECO International is proud to be working with this company to contribute to such a ground-breaking advancement in the fertilizer industry.
