While some materials may be self-binding, in most cases, the right binder is vital to agglomeration success. In general, binders:

 

 

 

    • Improve bonding forces and pellet durability.
    • Help to achieve the appropriate wet strength and dry crush strength.
    • Are inexpensive and readily available.
    • Must be consistent in quality/characteristics.

From bentonite clay and lignosulfonate, to corn starch and cement, binders come in many options. While careful thought is required to select the appropriate one for the job at hand, industry, use, cost and availability all dictate which binder is most ideal for the specific agglomeration process.
