Why Add a Rotary Agglomerator to the Heap Leaching Process?

The addition of a rotary agglomerator to the heap leaching process can provide exceptional benefits to the operation as a whole. Agglomerated ore fines are uniform in shape, allowing the leaching solution to more easily permeate through the heap. Additionally, the leaching solution can be pre-mixed with the ore fines in an agglomeration drum. This process creates a more homogeneous mix and allows the leaching to begin before it hits the heap leaching pad.

The diagram below illustrates how the agglomeration of ore fines helps the leaching solution to better permeate through the heap, because the small particles are not invading the spaces between the larger ones.
