This week’s photo comes from FEECO’s lab testing center, where an organic material is being fed to a paddle mixer.

Organic materials often fall into one of two categories: low moisture (<30% water) or high moisture (>60% water). As a general rule of thumb, low moisture organic materials often benefit from pan granulation systems, while high moisture organic materials tend to benefit from mixer-dryer systems. However, because the moisture content can vary so much, the equipment configuration needed can also vary significantly. Thus when it comes to processing any organic material- chicken litter, cattle manure, hog slurry or the like- testing is always key.

FEECO’s lab technicians are well-versed in organics granulation and regularly conduct feasibility studies in the lab to test and evaluate the most suitable solution for each unique organic material sample. The lab can set up a variety of equipment combinations and experiment with various process variables in order to determine the best configuration for the job.
