Our photo this week is a briquetter, a machine which transforms particle fines into a larger, more useful shape through compaction.

A briquetter uses a roll press to compact material fines and ultimately create briquettes. The machine works when the rolls force the fines into one half of a pocket. The rolls then rotate toward each other and the halves unite, forcing material into both sides of pockets. Each process varies though, depending on the material characteristics and preferred product. Briquettes can be created with a binder, high or low pressure, and can undergo mechanical or thermal treatment.
