Our photo this week is an unideal sample of briquettes. The briquettes are almost all not uniform in shape, many with broken edges. An ideal briquette would be the contrary- cylindrical in shape and smooth around the entire circumference.
The purpose of this photo is to highlight the importance of testing as part of product and/or process development. Through testing items such as feed rate, pressure and more, we can develop the recipe for successful agglomeration based on one’s unique material and processing goals, creating a product that meets our customer’s exact needs.
The FEECO Innovation Center houses a briquetter, in addition to a roll compactor, for pressure agglomeration test work. Our staff uses a historical database, and years of experience, to conduct each briquetting test. Through testing, we help our customers answer the following questions:
- Is my material capable of briquetting?
- Will binder be necessary to create the briquettes? If so, how much?
- How can temperature be used to help improve the briquetting process?
- What equipment configuration will produce the briquettes I am looking for?
- And more…
