This week’s photo shows FEECO’s laser alignment service in action, as a field service technician prepares to set up for the alignment of a trunnion wheel. Alignment is an important, preventative measure to help keep your drum running efficiently for years to come.

What is laser alignment?

Laser alignment is a service FEECO provides to ensure that rotary drums, as well as other types of equipment, are properly aligned. Unlike traditional techniques that relied on a person manually recording and analyzing measurements (leaving room for error in the process), laser tracking alignment systems are highly advanced. A laser beam measures parameters around the object in need of alignment, recording and analyzing the data with a cutting-edge software program. This allows for much faster and more accurate alignments than traditional methods.

How does misalignment occur?

Rotary drums naturally fall out of alignment over time, requiring periodic re-alignments. In addition to normal wear and tear, however, misalignment is also often the result of an improper base installation. Proper installation ensures the drum “floats” between the thrust rollers, and if not done correctly, misalignment can occur, often resulting in major damage if left untreated.

FEECO’s service technicians are well-trained in laser alignment, and can travel directly to your facility to perform inspections and alignment on your equipment. For more information on aligning your rotary drum, contact us today!
