This week’s photo is a granulation drum, or granulator, from the late 1950s.
Granulation drums are commonly utilized in the fertilizer industry when a chemical reaction is required during agglomeration. In this case, the drum is fitted with a cross-pipe reactor, where liquid ingredients are combined, reacted, and then sparged into the drum as a hot melt. As the drum rotates, the material tumbles, agglomerates, and simultaneously cools. The tumbling motion creates an overall blended, and uniform fertilizer product.
FEECO customizes granulation drums to meet each customer’s processing requirements and throughputs. Some drums, for example, are built with a specialized lining to protect against corrosive materials, while others are manufactured with carbon or specialty steel shells. All granulation drums are built with your material in mind, from NPK grades to urea, and more.
